Transcription in prokaryotes and eukaryotes

In Prokaryotes:
  •  not paired with translation
  • occurs in the nucleus
  • RNA is processed in the nucleus
  • Initiation requires proteins
In Eukaryotes
  •  paired with translation
  • occurs in the cytoplasm
  • RNA is processed in the cytoplasm
  • no proteins are required to begin transcription.
